Degree Descriptions

The B.A. in Computer Science explores broad, diverse topics such as programming, networks, the Internet, data communication, Web design, software, systems design/development, operating systems, e-commerce, mathematics, graphics and multimedia. The skills learned in the study of Computer Science can be applied in virtually every career field and academic discipline.

The B.S. in Information Systems explores the creation, utilization and support of complex information processing and communication systems. The IS program emphasizes systems analysis, design, development and management within application-specific domains. At Jewell, the IS program is integrated with Business Administration to provide you with in-depth training in the principles and practices guiding business today.

The minor in Computer Information Systems will meet the needs of students who do not intend to become IT professionals. This program focuses on areas of knowledge and skills that will be beneficial to all liberal arts graduates. The minor will prepare students to meet the technological challenges involved in their field of endeavor, allow a degree of flexibility so that students can choose courses based on their individual goals, and allow students who might consider an Information Systems or Computer Science major to explore the field and recieve recognition for their accomplishments without actually committing to the major.
