Students who are seeking accommodation(s) based upon a diagnosed disability must follow the outlined procedures below. Students are expected to submit accommodation requests within a reasonable time-frame in order for the College to offer proper service. In order to allow sufficient time for the eligibility and accommodation decision process and to make arrangements for appropriate accommodations, the student should contact the 504/Disabilities Coordinator and their professors within one week of the start of the academic term. Student are encouraged to make contact with the College shortly after they register for classes, so that the College can work proactively with the family and student to insure that the student’s needs are met.
The following steps should be complete as part of the application process:
1) Schedule an Appointment- Students are encouraged to contact Dr. Beth Gentry-Epley, Psy.D., Director of Counseling Services and 504/Disabilities Coordinator. Appointments can be made by calling (816) 415-5946.
2) Provide Documentation- Students are expected to provide current documentation of a disability. Student can refer to the documentation guidelines provided on this website for additional information on how to provide proper documentation.
3) Provide Class Schedule/Professors Names- Please provide your course schedule and the list of the professors you will be taking courses from during that particular term. This information assists in expediting the services that may need to be provided.
4) Follow up Meeting- After your application and documentation have been reviewed, Dr. Gentry-Epley will request a follow-up meeting to go over their decisions related to accommodations, and when appropriate, outline an accommodation plan for the student.
5) Meeting with Professors- Students will be expected to meet with each of their professors to notify them of their disability and to share with them the list of accommodations provided by the College (if applicable).
