Reasonable accommodation is defined as any adjustment to an environment or in the way things are routinely done that enables an individual with a disability to gain benefit from equal opportunities. Offering reasonable accommodations is one of the requirements of the Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended, and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
More specifically, a reasonable accommodation is an adaptation or adjustment to an academic course, program, service, activity or facility that enables a qualified student with a disability to have an equal opportunity to attain the same level of performance or to enjoy equal benefits and privileges as are available to a non-disabled student.
Accommodations are designed to meet the student's needs without fundamentally altering the nature of the College's instructional programs and are determined on an individual basis. Requests for exceptions to accepted curriculum policies or other academic-related issues are referred to the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Reasonable accommodation is granted based upon the nature and degree of the documented disability. Accommodations are always determined on a case-by-case basis.
