The following resources are available to all students at William Jewell College. If you are a student who is dealing with a disability, you may be confronting particular challenges unique to your disability. The following programs and services are available to help you deal with some of those unique challenges:
Bowles-Skilling Health Center- Dottie Plattenburg, Director of the Health Center, and Dr. Dana Granberg, the College’s Physician are both available to consult with and provide treatment to students. If a student is experiencing health issues that may require special assessment or needs, a consultation with the Health Center staff might be helpful.
Counseling Services- Counseling Services plays a key role in assisting students with learning and physical disabilities. Dr. Shawn Anderson, the Director of Counseling Services, is a licensed psychologist in both Missouri and Kansas. Dr. Anderson assists in determining reasonable accommodations for students who have made requests for accommodations. Counseling Services also provides personal support and counseling to students at no charge.
Office of Student Affairs- The Office of Student Affairs oversees student life, student activities, orientation programs, residential life, internship opportunities, and career services. The student affairs staff is trained to assist students with disabilities and can also provide advice and support to students who are in need of information, counseling, or direction.
The Writing Center- The Writing Center provides support services to students needing assistance and help with preparation for classes. The Writing Center will assist students by reading student papers and providing feedback, skills, and advice as to how to improve the student’s writing skills.
Your Advisor- Students should meet with their advisors on a regular basis to discuss their academic progress. Advisors can also assist students both professionally, through advice about their academic progress and William Jewell, and personally, as someone who students can talk with about any challenges they may be experiencing.
Your Professors- Your professors are highly skilled professionals who have chosen to work at William Jewell College because they have a passion for teaching students. Take advantage of this rich resource by requesting time to talk with your professor(s) outside of class. Your professors can help you better prepare for class assignments and tests. Your professors can also serve as a personal resource and someone to talk to if you are needing some extra personal support.
