Student Rights-
Students with properly documented disabilities have the right to:
· Not be denied access due to a properly documented disability.
· Receive reasonable and appropriate accommodation(s) and academic adjustments determined on a case by case basis.
· Receive assistance form the Office of Student Affairs in removing any physical, academic, and attitudinal barriers that may exist within the campus community.
· Appropriate confidentiality of all information pertaining to the student’s disability, except as required by law.
Student Responsibilities-
Students with properly documented disabilities have the responsibility to:
· Identify themselves to the Office of Student Affairs in a timely manner. In order to allow sufficient time for the eligibility and accommodation decision process and to make arrangements for appropriate accommodations, the student should contact the 504/Disabilities Coordinator and their professors within one week of the start of the academic term.
· Follow all procedures in order to provide documentation of a disability.
· Follow all procedures for obtaining reasonable accommodations and academic adjustments.
· Provide documentation from the appropriate professional source that verifies the nature of the disability, functional limitations, and the need for special accommodation(s).
· Notify all of their faculty members of their disability.
· Assume personal responsibility for meeting with faculty, requesting assistance through supplemental services such as the William Jewell College Writing Center and meeting all university policies and procedures.
· Develop self-advocacy skills and motivation leading to self-reliance and independence.
