Education
The teacher education program at William Jewell College is designed around integrated coursework and clinical field experiences, combined with a Christian liberal arts education, to prepare you for elementary and secondary education. Many school districts actively recruit education majors because of Jewell's reputation for producing strong, effective classroom teachers.
There is no better way to learn a complex skill such as teaching than through "hands-on" experience. Therefore, you start early in your college career observing and practicing the methods learned in the classroom as you teach in actual classrooms. As a second year student, you begin clinical field experience in diverse urban and suburban settings.
Programs The elementary education program places an emphasis on curricular and instructional planning, highlighting interdisciplinary learning.
The secondary education program combines your secondary education major with a double major in the area in which you plan to teach.
Degrees and areas of certification: Elementary Education, Middle School Education, Secondary Education
Resources/Facilities Education majors at Jewell have the opportunity to work in rural, suburban and urban schools to provide a wide spectrum of experiences and environments in which to learn.
Additionally, elementary education majors may opt for overseas study in British primary schools through the British Teacher Education Program. The B.T.E. consists of an introductory seminar in the spring semester followed by the overseas experience the following June.
