Financial Aid Award Information

First-Year Applicants & Transfer Students

WJC Students / Upperclassman

Scholarships

William Jewell College has an awarding philosophy that is based in fairness and provides each family with the College's best financial aid package at the outset of the process. Each package is based upon the information provided to the College by the family and based upon the awards for which the student is eligible. Therefore, the College does not negotiate over financial aid packages.

Grants and scholarships can cover up to full-tuition only.

Being recommended for an award by a particular program does not guarantee that the grant / scholarship will be awarded in full or in part.

Many grants and scholarships require the student to sign and adhere to a contract of commitment to the particular major / program. This contract requires the student to participate in order to maintain the grant / scholarship. Students who fail to participate at the expected level may be subject to the loss of that particular award.

Financial aid proceeds will be applied against all student charges including tuition, fees, room and board shown on the student account. In addition, financial aid proceeds will be applied to cover allowable charges other than tuition, fees, room and board unless the student (or parent as the borrower of a Federal Parent Loan) provides the William Jewell College Business Office a statement in writing requesting these other charges not be paid with financial aid proceeds. This written request will take effect on the date that the Business Office receives it and is not retroactive.

Resources

My Jewell provides access to student's accounts, registration, and financial aid information including online bill pay. Students will be directed to their My Jewell account to accept or reject their financial aid proceeds.

The Financial Aid Glossary provides a brief description and requirements for all financial aid awards. Students may not be entitled to many of the awards provided due to eligibility and renewability of each award.

WJC Refund Policy - William Jewell College will credit tuition (for withdrawal during a semester) in accordance with the College's Refund Policy. See more in the College Catalog, pages 6-7.

WJC Standards of Academic Progress (SAP) govern eligibility for institutional, State and Federal scholarships and financial aid. See the College Catalog, pages 8-9.

The Guide to Federal Student Aid is a best source of information about programs and processes, consult the Funding Education Beyond High School - The Guide to Federal Student Aid, published by the U.S. Department of Education.

GPA Requirements

A minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) is required to receive a number of institutional, federal and state awards on a yearly basis.  The awards listed below require that you maintain a specific GPA to retain the proceeds for a subsequent semester:

WJC Merit Scholarships - 3.0 cumulative GPA

WJC Merit Scholarships (Full-Tuition Awards) - 3.5 cumulative GPA

Access Missouri Grant (AMG) - 2.5 cumulative GPA

Missouri Bright Flight - 2.5 cumulative GPA

National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant (SMART) - 3.0 cumulative GPA (reviewable each semester)

Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant - 3.25 cumulative GPA

Students must have at least a 2.0 institutional cumulative GPA to receive all financial aid resources on a yearly basis. Institutional, federal and state funding is subject to termination if the minimum institutional cumulative GPA does not apply.
