Scholarships
WJC Merit Scholarships are awarded to first-year students during the admission process only. These awards are made for eight semesters and are not inflated for costs. Students with merit scholarships will receive the award so long as the minimum requirements are met for those eight semesters. These scholarships will also be awarded to students studying abroad for one program. See a financial aid administrator regarding additional criteria for terms abroad.
WJC Talent Awards may be awarded to upperclass students, although financial need as determined by the FAFSA may be considered. A talent director (i.e. coach) may recommend a student to receive an award for a future academic year. Particpation is required to receive talent awards. Talent scholarship recommendations must be submitted by the talent director on or before May 31.
A limited number of institutional scholarships are available to upperclass students. These scholarships are primarily awarded by specific departments to recognize the outstanding students in their disciplines.
The Scholarship and Financial Aid Coordinator maintains an online listing of outside scholarships that is available for upperclass students. Click here to view these scholarships. Notifications of outside scholarships are also sent to the Student Affairs e-newsletter for distribution to all Jewell students. Students can also contact the Scholarship and Financial Aid Coordinator to receive periodic email notifications of outside scholarship opportunities.
Loans
Federal Stafford Loans are guaranteed loans with fixed rates. These loans have a maximum eligibility per academic year based on the students year in school. Private loans are variable rate loans whose approval is decided by the lending institution. Private loans are subject to school certification and may be borrowed up to the cost of attendance less other aid.

Verification
The U.S. Department of Education requires schools to verify one-third of student FAFSAs on campus. As a result of this random selection, it may be required that you submit financial documents to the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship Services before Federal funds may be applied to your student account. These documents may include, but not limited to, you and your parents' Federal IRS 1040 Tax Returns and W-2's, other supporting income statements, and a WJC Verification Worksheet. Verification is not a penalty, but a process that simply checks the accuracy of a student's FAFSA for eligibility purposes.

Unusual Circumstances
Jewell understands that every student's family financial situation is different. These situations often times are not represented on the FAFSA and the school can review these situations on an indiviudal basis to determine if you may qualify for additional assistance. By submitting the Financial Aid Application Supplement you are notifying the college that your family's financial situation has changed. Upon review of certain financial documents, we will determine if a financial aid adjustment is feasible.
