Review the Agenda

 

Fraternity Bid Day Update:

            Tyler, Brandy, and Ernie have worked on policy guidelines for Bid Night activities.  All of the chapter presidents were invited to attend meetings to discuss policy development, but none attended.  A copy of the memo to be sent to chapter presidents and advisors was handed out and reviewed. 

            Questions/Discussion: 

1.      Has anyone given thought to having someone on hand (not necessarily SA, but an advisor, etc.) to back the EMT or presidents up?

2.      Could there be a statement that all “alumni advisors should be on call during the events in case the students need assistance”.

3.      I think the advisors should have to sign off that they “shall” be available for assistance.  If they are not, the result is that the party is shut down.

4.      I think it’s a lot of pressure but on you to control this.

5.      Right, and it gives you a lot more leverage.

6.      So, Tyler and Brandy need to have all of the numbers for the advisors.

7.      This is going to be a test to see how well the constituents are going to buy into these changes.

8.      This system is going to stop a problem before it even gets started, that has been the problem in the past.

9.      Work on rewording #3. Second sentence in #3 is right on.  Add to #3 that if the phone call has to be made to IFC and Panhell the chapter advisor must show up, if not the party is shut down.

10.  FIJI alums have had many discussions regarding their role with the chapter.  They have always had the stance that they will not be responsible enforcing college policy.  Where does the authority or power come from to shut down the party?

11.  This is going to be won at the chapter level.  We shouldn’t be too top down with this.  Chapters need to look at this document and see what do they need and can do to implement it to work for their chapter.

12.  I think one of the keys is that this document is coming from Tyler N. and Brandy.

13.  #1 should be #3.  Is this all violations or just violations that haven’t been taken care of?

14.  All violations, but also stating that violations were taken care of by the chapter.  I think that looks really good for the chapter.

15.  Two other issues to address: How are you going to train these people to go into these situations.  Also non-Jewell people who want to come to these events.

16.  Students from other colleges, the fact that they are of college age needs to be noted on the guest list. 

17.  Addition of a third person from the chapter to act with the EMTs.

18.  IFC and Panhellenic presidents do not have the authority to enact policy without the vote or approval of IFC and Panhellenic.  It needs that in order for it to be legitimate.

19.  Greek Council would be the best place for that ratification to take place.

20.  What if IFC doesn’t approve it? What is plan B?  I think it was referred to as plan C, it doesn’t happen.

 

Roll-Out:

You all got the hand-out during D&I.  Update:  We are working on that.  We have a meeting with the college relations guy to discuss language. 

1.      Who do you want at the big presentation?  Chapters, trustees, administration, community members, faculty, all of the people involved in this process.

2.      E-mail Hannah the Roll-out document.

****We need one grad, one undergrad to be on the design to committee for the sorority complex.

 

Review Strategies and Action Plans for Goals

Accountable, Credible, and Responsible Self-governance:

*IFC and Panhel constitutions would be helpful.

1.      There were questions asked about what do we mean by a Greek Honor code and how it is different from anything else we have in place.

a.       We are actually looking into developing an Honor Code in our disciplinary procedures.

b.      Academic and personal conduct would be encompassed

c.       If you look at the models the academic is the main part of this, but the “I will not lie” statement is overall.

d.      If you look at Washington and Lee, the code is academic, but if you look at their behavior outside of academics it is out of control.  So, the combination of behavior and academic is important.

2.      I have some language concerns with S1 and S2.  There needs to be more description.

Prepare your recommendations on S1 and S2 and start having the talks with SA.  Focus on S1.  If you need additional members come to Steering Committee to draft more people.

 

Unified Greek Community

1.      I don’t like where it’s going.  I think we are looking at Strategies that are larger than what our small Greek system can support.

2.      I completely agree with the philosophy behind it, but I don’t think we can support it.

3.      What kinds of things are already being done that meets the goal?

4.      S2 looks good, it needs to be communicated to chapters so that they can piggy back and cross program on their own programs.

Are there more affective ways to accomplish this goal outside of this system?  Take this back to the Goal committee to look at other ways this could be accomplished without this structure.  Look at goal number 8’s cross over potential.

 

Positive Recruitment and New Member Experience

1.      Value based needs to be in there somewhere.

2.      Language needs work.  S2 (positive recruitment) what does this mean?

3.      Should this goal be broken up?

 

Alumni and Advisor Leadership, Development, and Education

1.      Change initials to GAC instead of AGC.

2.      What’s the role of the GAC? 

3.      Ask advisors, what tools do you need to support this Greek Plan?

4.      Is it an evaluation or a survey on S2, AP1?

5.      Ask advisors, what do you see your role as an advisor?

 

Recognize and Promote Our Greek Community

Support and Improve Academic Achievement

**Order of Omega needs to get priority!

 

Build Campus and Community Partnerships

1.      Needs to be working with #5 S2 also goes with Unified Greek Community and Greek Week.

2.      Campus Beautification day has and does take place already.

 

Membership Leadership Development and Education

We really like S2 for this!

 

Promote a Greek Community that Welcomes and Values Diversity

Looks good.

Would like to see a large committee or “focus groups” to work on this.

 

Strengthen and Define the Roles of IFC and Panhellenic
