 Hall of Fame: Bill Summers

Bill Summers

Induction: April 28, 1995
Bill Summers lettered for four years in both basketball and track. He made history as the first African American to attend and graduate from William Jewell. He was named All-Conference three times and NAIA All-American Honorable Mention as a sophomore in basketball. Summers became Jewell’s first NAIA National Champion when he won the high jump as a junior. Although he stood at only 5’11” Pee Wee cleared 6’9” 3/4”. This school record stood until 1995. Summer’s was also named Athlete of the Year in 1965.
