 Hall of Fame: Carlene Basore Petersen

Induction: April 29, 1994
Carlene Petersen was a four year letter winner in tennis as well as a pioneer in women’s athletics at Jewell. She caused the NAIA to re-write its rules and regulations regarding female participation in male sports. She played number one on the men’s tennis team for three years. She was named team captain as a senior and competed in the Missouri Valley Collegiate Women’s Tournament each spring. This included players from all colleges and universities in a six-state area. Carlene won that Championship event all four years. She coached the women’s tennis team at the University of Denver for ten years
