Induction: November 6, 1999
Norman S. MacDonald, reared in Liberty and a 1935 graduate of Liberty High School, won four letters in football. He also excelled in golf and track during his four years at William Jewell College.

As a freshman, he was the primary punter on the football first team. During his sophomore year, Norman attained All Conference second team halfback. In a game against Central, in which Jewell won 21-0, Norman kicked the points after each touchdown and punted a 75-yard gain against Tarkio.

Norman made All Conference first team halfback as a junior. He earned All-Missouri quarterback on the second team as a senior and was conference MCAU first team halfback and captain.

During the 1938 games against Missouri Valley and Tarkio, Norman kicked the winning point after touchdowns. He also scored three touchdowns and kicked the final points to beat Central. As a senior football captain, he made the Missouri All Stars and was selected by Parke Carroll as first team All Conference halfback.

Not only was Norman a dynamic football player, he also was co-leader of the first gold team and earned one letter in the sport. In track he earned four letters and won the MCAU Track Championship two of his four years at Jewell. He graduated in 1939 from William Jewell.

Norman later served as president of the “J” Club in Liberty. During his term, he began a library for past athletes, helped to remodel the clubroom, and was responsible for hanging the former William Jewell athletes’ pictures, currently located in the Mabee Center Lobby.

A retired executive General Electric, Norman and his wife, Dorothy, reside in Louisville, KY. They have two children, Michael and Margaret.

Norman’s initiative and leadership are significant to Jewell’s athletic history.
