History
Why not study history at a place that has it's roots in history?
At Jewell, history is the process of stepping into the past in order to return with a new understanding of the present. As a history student, you develop careful reading skills and effective writing techniques while improving your critical thinking abilities.
As a history major, you enjoy a diverse and complete experience, allowing you to pursue a variety of career paths. You become adept at reading and summarizing complicated materials as well as performing quick and extended research. Recent history graduates found employment in the fields of banking, teaching, historical restoration, journalism and business.
And many students have gone on to prestigious graduate schools, including Yale, Duke, Stanford, Emory, Harvard and Oxford. Other graduates proceed directly to law school. And pre-law students have the opportunity for special counsel or advice from members of the pre-law committee.
You may choose to expand other academic disciplines you are pursuing by double-majoring in history. This preparation will enhance your professional goals in such fields as law, education, banking, computers, sports information, military duty, medicine, the Peace Corps law enforcement, and many other options.
As a history major, you are encouraged to take part in one of Jewell's twenty-two overseas study programs to enhance your classroom experience. Spend a year, a semester or a summer in England studying Renaissance art history, in Japan examining the American bombing of Hiroshima, or in Washington, D.C., studying the nation’s economy.
The professors of history all hold the highest degrees in their field and represent a diverse range of interests and specialties. Your study of history covers a wide range of topics including the Renaissance in Europe, the Jacksonion Era in the United States, the French Revolution, Modern Japan and the American Civil War. |
