THE JEWELL FUND
2006 Campaign “Enhancing the Jewell Experience”
 When I graduated from William Jewell College in 1966, I could not have told you about the path my life would follow. What I did know was that the sum of my experiences at Jewell left me fully prepared to embrace each new challenge as it unfolded, and welcome each opportunity with an agile and open mind.
While I may not have recognized the uniqueness of the Jewell experience at the time, it has become clear to me over the years as I encounter students and graduates that my alma mater is doing things for students that others aren’t. We expect a college education to offer academic preparation — and to a degree, life skills — for the next stage. Jewell steps beyond this, instilling confidence, clarifying values, and equipping individuals to step up to leadership roles that will enhance the greater community wherever they choose to set sail.
Jewell graduates share a willingness to make a commitment to something larger than themselves. I have chosen to support the Jewell Fund because it is donations to this fund that bridge the gap between average and extraordinary at William Jewell College. This critical source of flexible annual funding adds dynamic components to academic programs, supports initiatives that enrich life on campus, and extends the reach of scholarship support. Thanks to the Jewell Fund, college leaders can take advantage of fresh opportunities each year and solve problems as they arise.
Today, the Jewell Fund is more important than ever to our College’s ability to uphold a tradition that began 156 years ago. It is our community — alumni, parents and friends of William Jewell —who will ensure the ongoing quality of the Jewell experience, and ultimately determine whether the value of a Jewell degree is rising or falling.
We’re at a turning point in defining how our college will fulfill its mission in the years ahead. If you have never made a donation to the Jewell Fund, I’m asking you to join me in supporting the fund at this critical time. To those who have offered support in the past, I thank you wholeheartedly and ask you to consider whether you can increase your level of support. It’s clear to me, and I hope to you — if not us, then who?
