The Assistant Resident Director (ARD) is a part-time professional staff member who serves the College as an integral part of the Residence Life Staff, ten (10) months an academic year (August 1 – May 31). ARDs report directly to the Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Residence Life. ARDs live in a residence hall and work with students in areas of advising, programming (spiritual, social, educational and cultural), education, administration and general operation of the hall. The ARD oversees a student staff of Resident Assistants (RAs), who live on each hall/wing of the building and act as the frontline contacts for students.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as a role model for students in every aspect of College and community life
- Represent and support Residence Life and the College in interactions with students, faculty, staff, parents and guests
- Be familiar with all printed materials directly affecting the operation of Residence Life, such as forms, handbooks and procedural correspondence, etc.
- Know, understand, adhere to and uphold all College and Residential policies and regulations
- Be able to work under pressured/stressful conditions, serve as front line staff if emergencies occur in residential facilities
- Collaborate with Facilities Management staff to ensure proper maintenance/up-keep and custodial services of the building
- Attend all staff meetings, training, development and in-service functions
- Manage hall office, staff office (15 hours/week), establish RA office/duty hours
- “On-call” for one 24-hour period to answer Residence Life Hotline and respond to assistance calls from residents
- Responsible for record/information collection/management for residential facility and it’s residents
- Oversight and management of hall programming budget and all related hall activities/events
- Participate in the formation, implementation and evaluation of the goals and objectives of the overall residence life program
- Point person for emergency responses, procedures and crises for designated building(s)
- Responsible for management, operation and oversight of the two Convenience Stores located on each residential triangle.
- Participate in the selection and assignment of new staff
- Complete parts of the evaluation process for RA staff and programming.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Four-year college degree required; prior residence life or related field experience preferred. Strong organizational, communication (written and oral) and schedule flexibility are a must.
Working Conditions
Mixture of regular office work incorporated into a live-in environment with college students. At times, weekends and nights are an expected aspect of the position.
Pursuing and engaging in part-time work outside of the campus position is approved, in consult with the Director of Campus Life.

Compensation
Rent/maintenance-free, year-round residence (furnished apartment located inside the residence hall) and board plan (19 meals/week when classes are in session), plus $10.00/hour for 25 hours/week. Opportunities for additional paid work may be available throughout the year.
