William Jewell College is located in Liberty, MO, and has approximately 1100 full time students. William Jewell promises students an outstanding liberal arts education that cultivates leadership, service and spiritual growth within a community inspired by Christian ideals and committed to open, rigorous intellectual pursuits. The College has a long tradition of quality and success in intercollegiate athletics and sponsors 18 intercollegiate sports programs. The College is currently in candidacy year one of a three year process to transition to Division II of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The institution has been extended an invitation to the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) and will begin conference competition in the fall of 2011 in all sports except football. The GLVC will sponsor the sport of football beginning in 2012.

 

Summary

 

Responsible for the overall management and operation of the intercollegiate football program and to serve as a member of the teaching faculty. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities 

  1. Oversee the recruitment of prospective student-athletes in coordination with the Offices of Admission and Financial Aid 
  2. Develop and manage the football operations budget including equipment, travel, meals, uniforms, supplies, etc. 
  3. Manages the football scholarship budget in coordination with the Office of Financial Aid 
  4. Conduct the football program in strict accordance with NAIA, NCAA, and conference rules and regulations 
  5. Recruit and supervise coaching staff, including two full-time and several part-time positions 
  6. Organize and administer practice sessions and off-season conditioning program 
  7. Conduct summer youth football camps 
  8. Organize and participate in community service and fund raising activities 
  9. Develop relationships with football alumni and other friends and supporters of the College 
  10. Teach academic and/or activity courses 
  11. Work cooperatively as a member of the Athletics/Physical Education staff and the College community

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Progressive experience as a coach in the sport of football, head coach and collegiate experience preferred
  • Master’s degree in physical education or related field is required with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in academic programs 
  • Familiarity with appropriate athletic governing organization rules and regulations (NAIA, NCAA)
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills 
  • An understanding of the unique opportunities and challenges in the environment of private higher education 

Working Conditions

Normal office environment, some travel required. Evening and weekend work required.
Physically able to lift 25 pounds.

Compensation is commensurate with education and experience.  Comprehensive benefit and competitive compensation package.
