Summary
The System Support Specialist position spans a wide range of in-depth support activity to ensure proper configuration and functioning of desktop computers, servers, network and other technical issues.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist staff, faculty and students with troubleshooting software and hardware problems and identifying network problems of desktop and laptop computers (PCs and Macs).

Analyze and resolve hardware and software problems, and implement correct actions.

Provide technical support in the use of business applications and third party products by providing guidance, remedies, and recommendations in a timely manner.

Responsible for the installation, repair, and preventive maintenance of desktop workstations, laptops, peripherals, and other related systems.

Perform installations, upgrades, and back-ups of software and hardware applications.

Provide day-to-day management/monitoring of Active Directory/Exchange environment.
- Install, maintain, monitor and tune Microsoft Windows servers.
- Maintain an up-to-date inventory of desktops, laptops and other peripheral equipment.
- Provide high quality customer service through courteous, prompt and accurate communication.
- Work closely with fellow IS staff on technical implementation issues.
- Perform other duties, lead projects/tasks and assist with projects/tasks as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- A Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field is required.
- In-depth knowledge of desktop/workstation, hardware/software/operating systems (configuration and connectivity).
- Experience with Windows XP/Vista (and later generation) operating systems, Microsoft Office products, and Microsoft Outlook/Exchange (email).
- Some working knowledge of Macintosh/Apple products.
- Experience with Windows Servers administration and management, Active Directory and Exchange experience is a plus.
- Familiarity and aptitude with common network topologies, protocols, and tools, applicable software, and troubleshooting techniques.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated customer service skills.
- Proven ability to develop mutually respectful, harmonious, and trusting business relationships in an interdependent community such as a college campus.
Working Conditions
Normal office environment.
