Languages
Jewell offers language courses in French, Greek, Japanese, Latin, Spanish, and Arabic. You may major in French, Spanish or International Business and Language. The IB/L program is designed to prepare you for a career in International Business and to develop fluency in a foreign language. Additionally, you may receive certification to teach French and Spanish. The department offers minors in Classical Humanities, French, Japanese Area Studies, and Spanish.
While much of your language work takes place in the classroom (and for those students in French and Spanish, with the help from assistants from Spain and France who lead class lab sessions and conversation hours), Jewell's language department encourages students to participate in one of our twenty-two foreign study programs. You can live in and learn about the cultures of France, Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Germany, Austria, Japan and China while studying at a prominent university for a semester or a full year. You experience the day-to-day life of another country firsthand, while enhancing your language skills.
Additionally, the Service Learning program provides an opportunity to travel on mission teams to countries including Nicaragua, Guatemala, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic.
Majors: French, International Business and Language, and Spanish.
