#5 Nationally Ranked WJC Men Win 6-1 Over Avila on Senior Night
The #5 nationally ranked William Jewell College men’s soccer team won 6-1 at home over Avila University on senior night. All four WJC seniors (Matt Holdaway, Dusty Green, Allan Nekuda and Derrick Simons) started and played electrifying soccer. Cardianl senior midfielder Allan Nekuda struck in the seventh minute to give the Cardinals an early 1-0 lead. Jewell junior forward John Barber and Cardinal first year forward Matt Happy added goals in the first half.
WJC sophomore midfielder Austin Williams scored just over a minute into the second half to keep the scoring tempo going. Allan Nekuda and Austin Williams each scored their second goals of the night later in the half as the Cardinals won their 11th straight game and improved their record to 15-2-0 overall and 8-0-0 in the conference. The win over Avila secured an outright championship for the Cardinals in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.
“The seniors gave us a good show on senior night,” said WJC Head Coach Chris Cissell. “They have helped lead the team during a very memorable season.” The #5 nationally ranked WJC men’s soccer team will conclude their regular season on Saturday when they travel to Missouri Valley College for a Heart of America Athletic Conference game.
