William Jewell College men’s soccer wins big
The #8 nationally ranked William Jewell College men’s soccer team won 2-0 over #3 nationally ranked Graceland University in a Heart of America Athletic Conference match on Saturday.
Midway through the first half WJC junior defender Jacob Patton lofted a perfectly placed pass that found Jewell first year forward Matt Happy at the top of the box. Happy settled the ball and then slotted a shot in the corner of the goal giving the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.
With 10 minutes left in the game Jewell extended their lead. Cardinal senior midfielder Allan Nekuda provided a special goal by dribbling past three Graceland defenders before striking a shot to the far post to make the score 2-0. WJC junior goalkeeper Andy Shields recorded the shutout.
“The players gave another solid performance playing with skill and displaying effort,” said WJC Head Coach Chris Cissell. “Allan’s goal was the defining moment of a well-played game.”
The William Jewell College men’s record is currently 14-2-0 (7-0-0 in conference). The Cardinals face Avila University at Greene Stadium in Liberty on Wednesday, October 25. The kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
