WJC Men’s Soccer Lose Heartbreaker on the Road
The William Jewell College men’s soccer team opened the 2006 season with a 3-2 loss at #8 nationally ranked McKendree College. Trailing 0-2 in the second half, the Cardinals started a comeback when freshman Manny Tovar assisted freshman Matt Happy for WJC’s first goal of the year. Minutes later Tovar was the provider again as his cross found sophomore Austin Williams leaping in the air to finish a fantastic header to tie the game at 2-2 with less than five minutes remaining. Just a minute later McKendree scored the game winner. Final score: McKendree 3, William Jewell 2.
“We had some very good moments but we need to put it together for 90 minutes,” said William Jewell College Head Coach Chris Cissell. “Although I’m disappointed in the result we’ve been improving regularly and will be a better team tomorrow than we were today.”
