The William Jewell College Men’s Soccer team is on a roll. After their 2-1 win over nationally ranked Park University on Wednesday night in front of over 1,000 fans, Jewell looked to build on their momentum in another out-of-conference home game against Morningside College of Sioux City, Iowa.
Cardinal senior midfielder and co-captain Allan Nekuda helped get things going as he assisted freshman forward Matt Happy for the game’s first goal only 3 minutes into the match. Four minutes later, Morningside evened the score when a cross shot deflected off of a Jewell defender into the goal.
Just one minute later Kevin Nekuda found his older brother, Allan Nekuda, who finished from close range to give the Cardinals a 2-1 lead. With 10 minutes remaining in the half, Morningside tied the score against the run of play at 2-2. The score remained tied into the half.
William Jewell junior forward John Barber scored in the first minute of the second half to give the Cardinals a lead they would never surrender. Eight minutes later, junior defender Jacob Patton scored from an assist from senior midfielder and co-captain Dusty Green to finish the scoring at 4-2.
“We scored four nice goals tonight and dominated the game,” said WJC head coach Chris Cissell. “While there were some weaknesses in the first half, our performance in the second half was sharp. Morningside never gave up. They’re going to have a solid season.”
WJC improves their record to four wins and only one loss. The Cardinals next play on Tuesday, September 19th, at Missouri Baptist University in St. Louis.
