The William Jewell College men's soccer team won 2-1 over Park University—currently is ranked number 6 in the nation—in front of over 1,000 fans in the Cardinals’ home opener September 13. Ten minutes into the first half, WJC senior midfielder Allan Nekuda received a pass from his younger brother Kevin Nekuda and then shot the ball into the goal to give the Cardinals the lead. Less than 10 minutes later, freshman forward Matt Happy scored the eventual game-winning goal when he finished a cross provided by junior forward John Barber. Park University scored with 3 minutes remaining in the first half to close the score to 2-1.
The second half was hard-fought but scoreless.
"We're getting better at what we do offensively and defensively," said William Jewell’s head coach Chris Cissell. "All of the players gave a strong effort. And we're also appreciative of the support of the Cardinal fans tonight. They were great."
Next up for the Men’s team is a home match against Morningside College on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
