The #4 nationally ranked William Jewell men's soccer team advanced to the quarterfinals of the NAIA National Tournament on Friday with a win over Southern Nazarene University. The score was tied at 1-1 after two overtimes but the Cardinals were able to win on penalty kicks 4-1.
Southern Nazarene took an early 1-0 advantage but Jewell was able to score seven minutes later when Josh Howard headed a corner pass from Kevin Nekuda into the goal. Goalkeeper Andy Shields stopped two penalty kicks in the shootout and John Barber sealed the win with his goal in the fourth round.
Next up for the Cardinals is a quarterfinal matchup with Rio Grande on Saturday, November 18.
