Athletics: Men's Tennis

The tennis program at William Jewell will turn 100 years old in 2008. The Cardinals have been a member of the very competitive Heart of America Athletic Conference since 1985. Legendary William Jewell Coach Jim Nelson led the team for 25 years before his retirement in 1990 and helped establish William Jewell tennis as a national contender. With a highly competitive schedule that includes annual spring break trips across the country, William Jewell will look to take the men's team to new heights during the upcoming seasons. The team is currently led by former William Jewell player and 1994 graduate, Paul Worstell. He is assisted by Chad Thomason, another former player and graduate from Jewell.
The team is a very cohesive unit that prides itself on diversity. Players are involved in numerous other activities, such as music, fraternities, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Young Life. The men's team also excels in the classroom, helping William Jewell College men’s athletic teams earn the honor of the Heart of America Athletic Conference Commissioners’ Scholarship Award in 2007. For the fifth consecutive year Jewell’s men’s athletic teams had the highest GPA in the conference with a 2.98.
