The # 5 nationally ranked William Jewell College men's soccer team finished their regular season on Saturday winning 4-0 on the road at Missouri Valley College in a Heart of America Athletic Conference game.
Although the win wasn't a surprise, it was historic.
This marks the first Heart of America Conference Championship for the men’s soccer program in over 20 years. The Cardinals also became the first men's team to ever finish a perfect 9-0-0 in the history of the prominent Heart of America Athletic Conference. William Jewell's sweep of the conference included a 2-0 win over # 7 nationally ranked Graceland and a 2-1 win at # 18 nationally ranked Lindenwood. Sandwiched between wins over nationally ranked conference foes, Jewell also was victorious 1-0 at # 9 nationally ranked Grand View College and won 3-2 at NCAA Division I UMKC. Those four wins are among the 12 consecutive wins William Jewell College, 16-2-0, will take with them as they enter the Region V playoffs as the # 1 seed.
"The Heart of America Athletic Conference has some outstanding teams," said WJC Head Coach Chris Cissell. "We have a focused group of talented players here at WJC that have been working hard to improve every game."
