Applications, Scholarships and Auditions

All students who wish to major in music must audition for admission to the department. This can be done at the same time as a scholarship audition. Students who do not wish to major in music may still audition for scholarships to participate in music while at Jewell. Scholarships are competitive and are awarded based on talent.

A scholarship is both a reflection of a student’s achievement before coming to Jewell and also an investment in the potential achievement of that student while attending Jewell. All scholarships require some participation in the department, usually in the form of applied lessons for at least four semesters and membership in one or more ensembles. Students may audition on instrument(s), voice, piano or a combination.

Before auditioning students should read and follow the sequence listed below. We hold four audition days and you should plan to come to one of them if you want to audition for a music scholarship. For more detailed information about this process, please download the Music Scholarship Audition Information flyer.

If, at this time, you want further information about the Department of Music but are not ready to apply for a scholarship or application, please fill in the Music Questionnaire. This allows us to get to know you and your musical background better and to answer any specific questions you might have.

Step #1

Apply for admission to the College by completing the Application for Admission and Talent Scholarship Application.

Step #2

The deadline for Application for Scholarships and Admission to the Department of Music is January 15, 2010.   For permission to apply for a scholarship audition and/or admission to the Department of Music, contact  Anne Aunspaugh, Administrative Associate.

Complete the Department of Music Scholarship Application Form. This can be done online or you may download and complete the PDF version and mail it to us. There is important information at the bottom of this page and in the pdf document below that you should read carefully before you apply for scholarship. This includes specific dates and requirements for the music scholarship application process.

Step #3

Once you have applied for a scholarship audition, you will be notified of your date and time by the Department of Music.

Step #4

Music scholarships will be awarded about two weeks after the final audition date and if the FAFSA (or estimator) and other financial aid information has been filed. Although the scholarships are merit-based, they are also a part of the whole financial aid package. Please note that students will not be notified regarding the outcome of a scholarship audition until at least two weeks after the last scheduled audition day.

Step #5

Accept your scholarship by signing and returning your Music Scholarship Contract. This contract will be mailed to you in late spring or during the summer before your arrival on campus.
