BSN - Traditional Track
Our curriculum provides 124 college hours in liberal arts, prerequisite, and nursing courses. Students may enter the nursing program upon completion of high school, or as a transfer from another college or university.
Students in nursing must meet college requirements for admission to William Jewell College in order to begin classes. Students apply for admission to the Department of Nursing following completion of two semesters of critical thinking and inquiry (CTI) and prerequisite courses. Applicants are considered for admission based on admission guidelines, grade point average, and essay response.
Critical thinking and inquiry (CTI), prerequisite, and nursing courses provide our students with skills, knowledge, leadership skills, and values to enter, develop, and advance in the profession of nursing. Graduates completing our program with a bachelor of science in nursing are eligible to apply to complete the NCLEX-RN examination required by State Boards of Nursing for professional registered nurse licensure.
Applicants will be evaluated for acceptance into the nursing program based on the following criteria:
Grade Point Average
- Minimum grade point average of 2.50
- Minimum grade of C in all prerequisite courses
Nursing Supplement Application
Each applicant must complete a Nursing Supplement form and write a personal statement using 250 – 500 words. Essay guidelines are included on the Nursing Supplement.
Students begin nursing courses in the spring semester of the sophomore year. To be considered for spring admission, applications must be submitted by June 1 of the preceeding year. Policies and procedures are available in the Department of Nursing Student Handbook. Up to forty students will be admitted each year. Transfer student applicants are evaluated using the same criteria as current William Jewell students and will be granted an interview to complete the admission process.
