Nursing
A William Jewell nurse is prepared to address and meet the complex needs of a dynamic healthcare industry. Nursing students have all of the benefits of an on- campus education, while completing clinicals in a wide variety of hospital and community environments. With outstanding clinical experiences at local medical centers and health care agencies, students are well-equipped to apply their knowledge to the real world.
As a nursing major, you have the opportunity to gain a well-rounded liberal arts education and hands-on nursing experience with a high degree of faculty contact. Unlike many programs, William Jewell works with a variety of hospitals so that students gain experience in a wide spectrum of clinical settings. Our close proximity to downtown Kansas City - just twenty minutes away - gives you access to six medical centers, a variety of hospitals, and more than 10 agencies in and around the greater Kansas City area.

Distinctives:
Jewell nurses enter the working world with a broad understanding of nursing practices, as well as specific skills in regards to their chosen field. While at Jewell, students have unique opportunities to customize their learning. The Parish Nursing program and the Leadership Studies in Nursing program are just two ways that students can individually express themselves through their major. As students cultivate their personal interests, they are guided by professors who are not only fine educators, but are also respected practitioners currently working in the field. Other distinctives are:
- The Department of Nursing received full accreditation from CCNE (Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education) for ten years without recommendations, 1999-2009;
- All Jewell nursing grads seeking employment immediately after graduation are offered positions in the Kansas City area and beyond;
- William Jewell nursing graduates are in key leadership positions in virtually every hospital in the area;
- More than 800 alumni have graduated from Jewell’s Department of Nursing;
- Graduates score consistently above the state and national pass rates on nursing licensing exams.
