Religion
The W.D. Johnson Department of Religion challenges you to think from perspectives other than your own. You are encouraged to recognize the importance of religion in the human experience, not simply the private experience of an individual. You will develop vital, practical skills of analysis, criticism, written and oral communication, and research while fostering a more holistic understanding of the world.
In addition to "real-world" experiences for all majors, specific training for students interested in pursuing careers in ministry is offered by the department.
Our graduates pursue further education at some of the finest centers for theological study in the country including Yale, Harvard, Duke, Emory and Vanderbilt. Others find that the thinking and learning skills they received through the religion major prepared them well for law school or MBA programs. Recent majors have served in a wide variety of vocations, including college and seminary administrators and professors, denominational administrators, social ministers, school teachers and government.
