Taylor Brown has signed a Letter of Intent to compete as part of the William Jewell College softball program for 2008-09.

A native of Broken Arrow, Okla., Brown attended Broken Arrow High School where as a third baseman she was named to Oklahoma’s Large East All-State team and All-Conference, while hitting .309 with 9 RBI and 1 homerun in her senior season. 

“Taylor comes from a very successful high school program in Oklahoma’s largest class," said head coach Dustin Combs. "She possesses a lot of tools. She has a great arm and great bat speed. Offensively she is very impressive and I think that she will make the transition from high school to the college level with great success.”



Amanda Storm has signed a Letter of Intent to compete as part of the William Jewell softball team in 2008-09.   

Storm comes to Jewell from Carl Junction, Mo., where she had a very impressive high school career, and as a senior was named Second Team All-Sate Pitcher (Class 3), First Team All-District, First Team All-Region, First Team All-Conference, and First Team All-Area. In her senior campaign she recorded a 14-8 record with a 1.08 era and 182 strikeouts in 142 innings pitched.  She also hit .324 with 10 RBI and a .448 on base percentage.

“Amanda, is a great athlete that will be able to contribute to the program in several ways," said head coach Dustin Combs.  "She is a tremendous competitor in the circle. She comes from an extremely disciplined program with a winning attitude. She brings another very experienced arm to our rotation and will compete for a starting position in the outfield.”



Emily Cline has signed a Letter of Intent to be a part of the softball program at William Jewell in 2008-09.  

Cline, a native of Miami, Okla., attended Miami High school and as a senior provided speed at the top of Coach Chris Mercer’s Miami line –up while hitting .301 with a .408 on base percentage and 20 stolen bases.   She was named First Team All-Region and First Team All-Conference in 2007.

“Emily comes from a very well coached program and has a great knowledge of the game," said Head Coach Dustin Combs.  "She possesses great speed and athleticism. She could see action in the infield or the outfield and could provide a left handed stick with speed to the line-up.”


Ashleigh Tuggle has signed a Letter of Intent to participate as part of the softball program at William Jewell for 2008-09. 

A nativie of  Palmyra, Mo., Tuggle played a major roll in Palmyra’s back to back Class 2 Missouri State Championships. She was selected as a First Team All-District outfielder in 2006 and 2007. In her senior season she posted a .321 avg. with a .440 on base percentage and 26 runs.

“Ashleigh will compete for playing time in the outfield,"  said head coach Dustin Combs.  "She has tremendous range and plays very aggressive softball. She will provide the lineup with even more speed.”




Jaclyn Johnson has signed a Letter of Intent to paricipate in the softball program at Jewell for 2008-09.  

Johnson a native of Springfield, Mo., played for Hillcrest High School in Springfield after transferring from Reeds Spring High School. As a Junior at Reeds Spring she recorded a 19-8 record, 1.24 era and 159 strikeouts with only 14 base on balls in 175 innings pitched.   As a senior, she posted a 19-7 record and has spent the last year living and playing softball in the Czech Republic and was ranked the 5th best pitcher in Europe.  She recorded 3 wins and posted 0.45 era while winning the bronze medal in the World Cup Tournament.

“Jaclyn was a dominating pitcher in high school and will bring a tremendous amount of experience and leadership to our pitching staff," said head coach Dustin Combs.   "She has really good stuff in the circle and has the maturity and softball knowledge of an upper classmen.”


Kelsey Loyd has signed a Letter of Intent to play softball at William Jewell for 2008-09. 

Loyd, a native of Joplin, Mo., posted a 14-7 record with a 1.93 era and 149 strikeouts in 133 innings of work while leading Joplin High School to a District Championship last year as a senior.  She also hit .375 with 17 rbi and 8 doubles.

“Kelsey is a very smart pitcher and she will continue to improve her pitches which will make her a great addition to our pitching staff," said head coach Dustin Combs.  "She will also add a very good bat to the roster.”

Katie Darby has signed a Letter of Intent to compete as part of the Jewell softball team in 2008-09. 

Darby, from Joplin, Mo., comes to Jewell as another product of Kirk Harryman’s Joplin High School softball program. As a shortstop she was a  three time first Team All-Conference and All-District selection (05,06,07).  As a senior she was also selected as a first team All-Area infielder and Joplin’s offensive player of the year while hitting .457 with 9 doubles, 15 RBI and 20 runs scored. 

"Katie is a slick fielding shortstop with great range and a very strong arm," said head coach Dustin Combs. "She will fit right in to our fielding philosophy. She has tremendous potential as an offensive threat in the HAAC.”
