Courtney Wilmsmeyer has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete as part of the William Jewell College track and field program in the fall of 2008. A native of New Franklin, Mo., Wilmsmeyer attends New Franklin High School where she excelled in the 100-meter high hurdles. Wilmsmeyer won the gold in the 100-meter hurdles at state track last year and is the only female athlete in New Franklin history to win an individual state championship in track.
“You have to start with good raw material, and Courtney is definitely that. I’m confident that when she gets to our level of competition she’ll just naturally start dropping her times even further,” said Jewell head coach Ted Graves. “Jewell is an academically rigorous place. She’ll be able to not only thrive on the track, but in the classroom as well.”
Wilmsmeyer has emerged as the Central Activities Conference and district champion the last three years. She won it all as a junior a year ago. In 2005 she placed second in the state and took home the third-place medal in 2006.
