Core Curriculum Guidelines for Transfer Students
The Core Curriculum program at William Jewell College ensures that each student has a common experience of learning. Research shows that colleges and universities with a common experience in their general education program increase the odds of having students with meaningful relationships and greater likelihood to graduate. If you have over 24 hours of college credit, please refer to the rest of this page as a guideline in helping you find out what college courses will transfer directly into William Jewell College’s unique general education program.

Students with less than 24 hours of college credit, should contact Melissa Bryson, Transfer Admission Counselor, in the Office of Admission for a personal advising session. She can also be reached at (816) 415-7510.

Transfer students may also choose to fulfill an additional Level II course before or after they get to William Jewell College. If a student decides to fulfill the requirement in the last way, they must take at least one of the four General Education level II courses in the Culture and Traditions category.

Level II
There are four categories of courses in level two (Culture and Traditions, Power and Justice in Society, Sacred and Secular and Science, Technology, and the Human Experience). Each William Jewell College student must take one course in three of the areas (the only category that the student does not have to fulfill is the category that most closely matches their major). An example of this would be a student who majors in religion would not have to take a course under the Sacred and Secular category.

Transfer Equivalents at Level II are as follows:

  • Power and Justice in Society - Two courses from different disciplines within the social sciences showing a total of at least four semester hours, or one interdisciplinary course of at least 3 hours within the social sciences.
  • Sacred and Secular - Two courses showing a total of at least four semester hours. One must be an introduction to the Bible course of at least two semester hours. The other must be a course in the broader study of religion (e.g. church history, Christian ethics, theology, history of Christian thought, world religions, philosophy of religion, etc.).
  • Science, Technology, and the Human Experience - One laboratory science course and one advanced mathematics course (calculus II or above), or two science courses with one being physical and the other a life science. One of the science courses must be a laboratory science. Requirement may be met by one interdisciplinary course of at least 3 hours within math and sciences, involving a significant laboratory experience.

Level III
