U.S. News & World Report cites William Jewell among America’s best Contact: Rob Eisele, 816-415-7574 August 20, 2009 The 2010 edition of U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Colleges” names William Jewell among the nation’s top 186 liberal arts colleges. William Jewell’s ranking is among colleges that focus almost exclusively on undergraduate education and that award at least 50 percent of their degrees in the arts and sciences. The magazine’s annual rankings are based on such factors as peer assessment, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, alumni giving and graduation rate performance. William Jewell is the only national liberal arts college in the Kansas City region. The 2010 rankings for William Jewell College reflect an increase from 28% to 33% of freshmen ranked in the top 10% of their high school graduating class. The U.S. News ranking is the third national accolade received by William Jewell College this month. William Jewell was named among “America’s Best Colleges” in an August ranking published by Forbes magazine, and was listed among The Princeton Review’s “The Best 371 Colleges” for 2009-2010. Only about 15% of the country’s four-year colleges and universities are considered for these top-tier rankings. Classes begin August 31 on the William Jewell College campus in Liberty, Mo. The incoming class for 2009 is the most talented in College history, with an average ACT score of 26.0.
