The William Jewell College Dance Team has been ranked among the top 11 teams in the nation. The team recently returned from the 2007 College Dance Team National Championship at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., where it finished in 11th place.
Team members competed in two Open Dance Division categories (Jazz and Hip Hop) against NCAA Division II schools, NAIA schools and junior colleges. In order to qualify, the team submitted a taped performance to The Universal Dance Association in November. The team qualified 11th out of 31 teams in the Open Dance Division.
“I’m very proud of the hard work, commitment, and performance exhibited by these outstanding Jewell students,” said head coach Linda Chappell. “Nationals is an extremely competitive event, and everyone pulled together and danced from the heart in front of thousands of spectators and ESPN cameras. It was a magical experience.”
The 2007 competition marks the eighth consecutive year that the college’s Dance Team has participated in the National Championships.
