The William Jewell women’s doubles team of sophomore Nikki Chambers and first-year player Tanya Ratana is currently ranked #23 in the nation in the latest International Tennis Association poll for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Chambers and Ratana qualified earlier this fall for the ITA Small College National Championships by winning the ITA Central Regional in September. They currently sport a 7-4 record thus far in the spring season.
“Nikki and Tanya are starting to really play some good doubles,” said head coach Paul Worstell. “They have had some good wins this spring and I think they still have a lot of room to improve and climb higher in the rankings.”
In addition, Chambers and Ratana were nationally ranked in singles. Chambers, 8-3 in singles play this spring, was ranked 35th in the nation while occupying the number-one singles slot for the Cardinals. Ratana, Jewell’s number-two singles player, was ranked 44th in the nation. She is also 8-3 for the Cardinals this spring.
The Cardinals, 5-6 on the season, will travel to Maryville, Mo., Tuesday April 7 for a match against Northwest Missouri State University at 3:00 p.m.
