William Jewell College has been named among “America’s Best Colleges” in a new report issued by Forbes magazine.

In partnership with the Center for College Affordability and Productivity, Forbes has issued its second annual ranking of “America’s Best Colleges.” In this report, the CCAP ranks 600 undergraduate institutions based on the quality of the education they provide, the experience of students and how much they achieve.

William Jewell was ranked in the number 317 slot out of 600 institutions. Only about 15% of the nation’s four-year colleges and universities were considered for the “America’s Best Colleges” rankings.

The CCAP staff gathered data from a variety of sources. Twenty-five percent of the rankings were based on student evaluations of courses and instructors as recorded on the Web site RateMyProfessors.com. Another 25% was based on post-graduate success, determined by enrollment-adjusted entries in Who’s Who in America and the average salaries of graduates reported by Payscale.com. An additional 20% is based on the estimated average student debt after four years. One-sixth of the rankings are based on four-year college graduation rates. The last component is based on the number of students or faculty, adjusted for enrollment, who have won nationally competitive awards.

The nationally competitive awards portion of the rankings considered the number of students receiving Rhodes Scholarships, Marshall Scholarships, Gates Cambridge Scholarships, Truman Scholarships, Goldwater Scholarships, Jack Kent Cooke Graduate Scholarships and the Boren Fellowship. Over the last seven years, William Jewell College students have claimed two Rhodes Scholarship national finalists, a Marshall Scholarship, three Truman Scholarships and four Goldwater Scholarships.
