Larry Maiorano, a veteran golf coach and player, has been named the new women’s golf coach at William Jewell College.
Coach Maiorano spent five seasons as the golf coach at Chillicothe High School, and two years coaching the golf team at St. Thomas Aquinas High School. In 1998, Aquinas won the state golf championship. Maiorano will begin his new position immediately.
Maiorano played golf at Northwest Missouri State and finished in the top 10 in conference all four years. He also holds the record for most wins at Northwest. He still plays competitively and holds 17 club championships at five different country clubs in the area. In 1985 he won the two-man Kansas Mid-Am Championship. He also worked closely with his daughter, Gina, who went on to play golf for Southwest Missouri State in Springfield.
A native of Auburn, N.Y., Maiorano earned his bachelor of science degree in physical education from Northwest Missouri State in 1969. He went on to earn his master’s of science degree in guidance from Northwest Missouri in 1974. He currently resides in Lenexa, Kan., with his wife, Pat.
