WJC Women Celebrate Senior Night With 5-0 Win
The final 2006 regular season home game saw the William Jewell Cardinal women win 5-0 over Avila University in a Heart of America Athletic Conference match. The Cardinals’ six seniors (Sydney Boggess, Celine Jajko, Anneliese Laughman, Abby Mott, Megan Penrod and Ashley Tanner) all started and set the pace for the entire game. WJC senior forward Anneliese Laughman scored in the ninth minute on an assist from WJC forward Nicole Revenaugh to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead that they would never surrender. Cardinal junior midfielder Shannon Eberle and Jewell sophomore midfielder Katie Brooks added goals before halftime.
The second half saw more Cardinal scoring. WJC junior midfielder Megan Gray scored 7 minutes into the second half and then Revenaugh added her second goal of the night to complete the scoring. WJC junior goalkeeper Michelle Fitzgerald and first year goalkeeper Rebecca Ewing shared the shutout. “The seniors have helped the program achieve a lot during the past four years,” said WJC Head Coach Chris Cissell. “It was a fun night for everyone.” The WJC women’s team will conclude their regular season with a road game at Missouri Valley College on Saturday in a HAAC match.
