WJC Women’s Soccer wins again
The William Jewell College women’s soccer team, ranked #3 in Region V, scored three second-half goals to defeat Benedictine College, 3-1, in a home conference match on Tuesday night, October 17. Jewell senior midfielder Ashley Tanner scored the first goal of the night when her 25-yard blast stretched the back of the net. Ten minutes later Cardinal sophomore midfielder Kathleen Hatfield scored from 35 yards on a free kick to extend the lead to 2-0. In the final 10 minutes, William Jewell senior midfielder Abby Mott dribbled down the sideline before delivering a perfectly crossed pass that met junior midfielder Megan Gray in stride at close range for the Cardinals’ third goal of the game. Benedictine College scored in the final minute of the match to complete the game’s scoring.
“We played some excellent soccer tonight against a very good team,” said WJC head coach Chris Cissell. “Our speed of play was good and our touch was sharp.”
