The William Jewell College women’s soccer team, currently ranked #24 in the nation, recorded its fourth consecutive shutout victory in a 5-0 win at home on Saturday night versus Morningside College of Sioux City, Iowa.
Sophomore midfielder Katie Brooks scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal in the sixth minute of the match to give WJC a 1-0 lead. The score remained 1-0 for the rest of the half.
In the second half, with the wind at their back, the Cardinals turned up the offense and threatened to score more frequently. Sophomore forward Nicole Revenaugh added two goals in the second half and Megan Gray also scored during a flurry of chances in the half. William Jewell junior forward Rachael Obert scored on a penalty kick to complete the scoring in the Cardinals’ convincing 5-0 victory. Freshman goalkeeper Rebecca Ewing and junior goalkeeper Michelle Fitzgerald shared the shutout.
“We had control of the match from the opening whistle and we played better as the game progressed,” said WJC Head Coach Chris Cissell. “All of our opponents have been very different from each other, and our players are doing well adjusting and working through challenges.”
WJC improves its record to four wins and only one loss. The Cardinals take their four-game winning streak on the road Tuesday, September 19th, against Missouri Baptist University in St. Louis.
