2019 Martin Luther King Celebration

William Jewell College will host the 35th annual Northland Martin Luther King Jr. Community Celebration on Jan. 21, 2019, in Gano Chapel on the College's campus. The event is free and open to the public. 

The guest speaker will be Lilia I. Toson, '07, an assistant attorney general at the New York State Office of the Attorney General. Toson focuses on health care and civil rights policy cases. After graduating from Jewell, she earned a law degree from New York University School of Law, where she was an articles editor of the Law Review and an AnBryce Scholar. She later served as senior counsel in the affirmative litigation division of the New York City Law Department, a litigation associate at Clearay, Gottlieb, Steen and Hamilton LLP, and a judicial clerk for the Hon. Duane Benton of the U.S. Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. She lives in Brooklyn, N.Y., with her husband and son.
