Policy on How to Report Complaints or Crime

The College encourages accurate and prompt reporting of potential criminal behavior and violations of College policy. The College investigates reports to determine appropriate resolution and referrals.

Reporting Crimes
Potential criminal behavior occurring on College property should be reported to the Office of Campus Safety. The number to contact an officer is 816-365-0709 or dial 1411 from any campus phone.

Individuals making reports are also encouraged to report crimes to the Liberty Police Department or other appropriate law enforcement agency.

Situations that pose imminent danger or while a crime is in progress should be reported to local law enforcement by calling 911.

Reporting Discrimination and Harassment
The College prohibits discrimination and harassment. Incidents of potential discrimination and harassment should be reported to the College’s Anti-Harassment Coordinator at 816-415-5085 or Deputy Anti-Harassment Coordinator at 816-415-6335. Mandatory Reporters
All William Jewell faculty, staff, and volunteers have a duty to report harassment to one of the following individuals:

How to Make Other Reports
There are several ways to report other concerns to the College including in-person and on-line. For emergencies, call 911 immediately. The following officials can assist you in making a report to the College.

Content of the Report
So that the College has sufficient information to investigate a complaint, the complaint should include: (1) the date(s) and time(s) of the alleged conduct; (2) the names of all person(s) involved in the alleged conduct, including possible witnesses; (3) all details outlining what happened.

Individuals who wish to have a confidential conversation about a potential crime or other misconduct may contact one of the following resources. These resources are available for confidential services before and after a report is made.

Daily Crime Log
The daily crime log is available to view upon request to the Campus Safety Director at Curry Hall 124. If the Campus Safety Director is unavailable, requests may be made to the Director of Disability Services, located in the Student Union. The crime log contains the list of crimes reported, and basic information about the crime such as the date, location and general description.
