William Jewell College provides an outstanding undergraduate experience for students who wish to invest themselves in their own education. In addition to the foundation of excellence in the core curriculum, the College provides bountiful enrichment opportunities that include the Perspectives on the Common Good Lecture Series, numerous study abroad programs, the Hall Summer Enrichment grants, summer research grants, dozens of internship locations, and NCAA athletics. This year we have instituted the Journey Grant program that provides $2,000 for every student to construct his or her own experiential opportunity. These grants will make it possible for every student to study abroad or conduct research or have an internship or create an experience none of us have yet envisioned. The educational experience of Jewell students is not limited to the classroom. In fact, we expect you to be engaged frequently beyond the classroom. These opportunities and dozens of others prepare our graduates for outstanding first jobs or placements at the best graduate schools in the world.
These activities are led by outstanding faculty members. One of our faculty members, Dr. Mark Walters, has been named among Princeton Review’s Best 300 Professors in America. His work with students is reflective of the quality of teaching you will find in every discipline at Jewell.
Jewell students compete well for national prestigious fellowships and scholarships. These fellowship competitions help to prepare our students for applying to the best graduate schools and employers in the country. To see recent recipients of other academic honors, click here.
We are fortunate to be located in a region (Liberty / Kansas City) that provides the best in quality living. Liberty still has a strong community feel even though it has grown to nearly 30,000 residents. Our relationship with Liberty is outstanding, as reflected in Princeton Review’s rating Jewell as having an outstanding “town-gown” relationship. Kansas City provides the best in sports and the arts, internships and service opportunities. Jewell is a provider of one of the most important arts programs in the city -- the Harriman-Jewell Series. This Series brings the very best classical performers in the world to Kansas City, and Jewell students have the best seats in the house, free of charge.
As the institution’s recognition as TIME Magazine’s 2001-02 Liberal Arts College of the Year illustrates, Jewell is unique. Long before classes begin, incoming first-year students are contacted by student mentors who will guide them through the first year of higher learning. Once on campus, the first-year students are embraced by small groups of peers, including student mentors, academic advisors, dean for first-year students, counselors and resident advisers. We prepare students to excel academically, professionally and personally, and to develop as leaders who will have a tremendous impact on their world. At William Jewell, students are our first priority, and they comprise the heart of the institution. This priority is just one of the many reasons we have been selected as one of the Colleges of Distinction.
As a member of the Annapolis Group, Jewell is numbered among a small group (130 nationwide) of selective liberal arts colleges whose commitment is to providing the best liberal arts education possible.
