Items lost or misplaced by a patron must be reported to library staff as soon as possible. If the item is not located by the item’s due date, replacement costs will be charged.

Billed Items Due to Loss, Damage, or Theft
Patrons will be billed for replacement costs of materials and may lose library privileges until accounts are paid in full.

Patrons may have two options for replacing library materials:

  • Either pay the billed amount on the patron’s library account in accordance with replacement costs as determined by Jewell Library Services or reciprocal billing library; Or,
  • Purchase a new copy of the exact item to submit to Library Services no later than one week after a replacement bill has been received. This option will be made available at the discretion of the library staff with prior arrangement.

Charges for replacement items and fines: Items not returned or replaced will be billed one week after the item due date, unless previous arrangements are made with library services staff in advance. Bills for replacement costs and fines for late items will be submitted to the William Jewell College Business Office. Once charges are submitted to the Business Office they are irreversible.

Students with outstanding library accounts will be unable to register for classes and may have grades, transcripts, and/or diplomas held until their obligations have been met.
