The purpose of this policy is to establish guidelines for the management and operation of the College lost and found service, which is overseen by the Campus Safety Department. The policy aims to ensure the efficient handling, cataloging and return of lost items to their rightful owners while maintaining proper documentation and security.

Reporting Lost Item
Individuals who find lost items on campus are encouraged to report them promptly to the Campus Safety Department. Lost items can be reported through online forms, phone calls or in-person visits to the Campus Safety Office during its operating hours.

Documentation and Cataloging
The Campus Safety Department will maintain a detailed record of reported lost items, including a description of the item, date and time of reporting, location of where it was found and contact information of the person who reported it.

Storage and Security
The Campus Safety Department will provide a secure storage area for the safekeeping of lost items. The storage area will be locked and accessible only to authorized personnel from the Campus Safety Department responsible for handling lost and found items.

Public Awareness
The College will promote awareness of the lost and found service overseen by the Campus Safety Department to the campus community through various communication channels, including signage, website announcements, social media platforms and newsletters. Individuals who have lost items will be encouraged to check with the Campus Safety Department to inquire about their belongings.

Item Retrieval Process
Individuals claiming lost items must provide satisfactory evidence of ownership, such as a detailed description, proof of purchase, or any other relevant documentation. The Campus Safety Department will require identification verification before releasing the lost item to the rightful owner. The department will maintain a log of retrieved items, including the date and time of retrieval and the person claiming the item.

Holding Period
Lost items will be held for a period of 30 days from the date of reporting. During this holding period, every effort will be made to locate the rightful owners and facilitate the return of the lost items. After the holding period expires, unclaimed items may be donated or disposed of.

Collaboration with Campus Departments
The Campus Safety Department will establish effective communication channels with other campus departments, such as Facilities, Student Life or the Library to facilitate the return of lost items and handle inquiries efficiently. Collaboration will involve sharing information about lost items and coordinating efforts to reunite lost items with their owners.

Policy Review
This policy will be reviewed periodically by the Campus Safety Department to ensure its effectiveness and compliance with applicable regulations. Any necessary updates or revisions to the policy will be made in consultation with relevant stakeholders and communicated to the campus community.

By implementing this policy, the College aims to provide an efficient and reliable lost and found service overseen by the Campus Safety Department. This ensures the proper handling and return of lost items while maintaining the security and integrity of the process.
