Purpose: The purpose of this policy is to secure and protect the information and assets owned by William Jewell College and personal information traveling on the William Jewell wireless network. In areas where the William Jewell centrally-managed network is available, any locally managed access points (routers) must be removed.

Policy: This policy specifies the conditions that wireless infrastructure devices must satisfy in order to connect to the College network. Only those wireless infrastructure devices that meet the standards specified in this policy are approved for connection to the network. This policy addresses the requirements of wireless deployments, wireless usage, and wireless airspace usage.

Procedure: Standards supported included IEEE 802.11n, 802.11g and 802.11b. IEEE 802.1X is the authentication standard. Additional security procedures are applied as needed.

There are specific SSIDs broadcast by the William Jewell wireless deployment:

GuestOpen – For visitor access
The guest wireless will be made available in common areas like Yates, Pryor Learning Commons and Pryor Leadership Center. The GuestOpen network will have a bandwidth limit to ensure best performance for faculty, students and staff.

JewellSecure or Resident hall specific SSID
Only devices authenticated via William Jewell College active directory account credentials may access this SSID.

WJC_GameStream
Purpose built network for resident gaming consoles and streaming devices. Formal requests are required to access to this network. Each request is carefully scrutinized and will require complete device and student information before access is granted. Please note that multiplayer environment’s that require UpNP or Loose NAT may not work properly on this network due to network security constraints.

William Jewell College policy requires that all deployments of wireless infrastructure be installed and maintained by IT. Installing departmental or do-it-yourself wireless access points is prohibited to avoid possible interference with the College wireless network, unnecessary impact to the wired network and to minimize undue security risks to the College. Additional, in areas where centrally-managed wireless network is available, any locally managed access points must be removed. Only devices authenticated via William Jewell College account credentials may access network resources on the College network. Unauthenticated visitors will be able to access only the Internet via the GuestOpen network.

Authenticated Access
Role-based access to the network shall be established using the user’s William Jewell College account credentials. All data transactions shall be encrypted and secured by the protocols listed in the supported standards.
