Through an innovative collaboration between William Jewell College and Breathe for Change, you can advance your career and earn a fully accredited Master of Science in Education in Transformative Teaching and Learning. This program is designed for educators who want to deepen their impact, personally, professionally and within their communities. Courses center on human intelligence and research-backed pedagogy, integrating key competencies such as social-emotional learning, emotional intelligence, trauma-informed and inclusive instruction, mindfulness and belonging as practical tools for effective teaching, learning and leadership.

You'll engage in a rich blend of online coursework, experiential learning and action research, all grounded in human-centered education. Alongside expert faculty and a supportive community of fellow educators, you’ll build practical skills while earning your graduate degree. This program equips you not only with advanced pedagogical tools but also with the personal growth and leadership capacities needed to thrive in today’s rapidly evolving educational landscape. With each course, you’ll apply what you learn in real time, transforming both your teaching practice and your life.

Core Principles of the M.S.Ed. Curriculum

Dive into an M.S.Ed. curriculum that develops human intelligence across the emotional, social, cognitive, somatic and universal layers to unlock exceptional teaching, learning and leadership.This program is made up of three primary phases:

  • PHASE 1: Understand and Embody Human Intelligence

    Develop yourself personally and professionally by building deep self-awareness and a strong foundation for understanding how you and your students learn, grow and thrive. This experience explores five interconnected layers of human intelligence—cognitive, emotional, social, somatic and universal—grounded in brain science, human development and culturally responsive perspectives. You’ll learn how the brain, body and nervous system shape behavior and learning; how trauma, stress and burnout impact well-being; and the core competencies that support growth from early childhood through adulthood.

  • PHASE 2: Become a Transformative Teacher and Facilitator

    Become a transformative teacher and facilitator by deepening your mastery of human intelligence in practice. You’ll integrate research-backed pedagogy, experiential learning and trauma-aware instructional strategies to design engaging, inclusive learning environments. This phase focuses on age-responsive approaches to mental health and engagement, accessible movement to strengthen somatic intelligence and concrete tools for building trust and connection with students. Through expert mentorship and peer feedback, you’ll refine your craft and lead learning experiences that are effective, human-centered and built to last.

  • PHASE 3: Practicum: Action Research in Education

    Drive positive impact in your community by applying human intelligence in real-world settings. Through a capstone action research project, you’ll translate insight into action at the individual, classroom, school and district levels. You’ll develop a clear vision for sustainable change, design and lead community-based initiatives, and collect and analyze data to evaluate impact and strengthen your approach. This practicum builds your capacity for organizational well-being and systems-level leadership while equipping you to communicate your work through credible research and presentations. The result is impact that lasts, supported by a mindset of continuous learning and growth.
